CCAT-7 practice questions, with answers
Eighteen free practice questions: one of each of the CCAT-7’s nine kinds of question, at Grade 3 (Level 9) and Grade 4 (Level 10). Try each with your child, then open the answer to see the rule behind it. Every question is original, written for Cub Climb, not taken from the test.
Some boards, TDSB among them, ask families not to practise the test itself. What TDSB says.

What these show, and what they don't
- One question of each kind. The real test has about 20 of each, timed, in three sittings of roughly 30 minutes.
- The answer and, from Grade 3, the rule behind it. Naming the rule is the part that builds reasoning; getting the answer by luck doesn’t.
- No score. Boards don’t publish the CCAT-7 score that moves a child on, and a handful of questions can’t predict one.
The full set of each kind, at every grade from kindergarten to grade 5, is in the app, where a missed puzzle comes back until it sticks. More about the CCAT-7.
Questions parents ask
Are these real CCAT-7 questions?
No. Every question here was written for Cub Climb, and none is a copy or a close imitation of a real CCAT-7 question; we have never seen a real test form. They are the same nine kinds of question the CCAT-7 uses, so a child can see what each kind asks.
Which CCAT-7 level is Grade 3?
Level 9 is Grade 3 and Level 10 is Grade 4. The kinds of question stay the same from level to level; what changes is how hard they are.
How long is the CCAT-7?
About 90 minutes in all, roughly 30 minutes for each of its three batteries: verbal, quantitative and non-verbal. In the CogAT it is built from, each subtest runs about 10 minutes for about 20 questions.
Is it allowed to practise for the CCAT-7?
Some boards ask families not to. TDSB asks families not to practise the test itself and says evidence of preparation can invalidate a result, while suggesting word games, number games, puzzles and explaining answers at home. Check what your own board says before you start.
Build the reasoning, not the test
Short, original puzzles with words, numbers and shapes. Your child answers, then names the rule.
