Answers, and the rule behind each one

  1. 1. E — 47. Rule: the gap grows each time. The gap between numbers starts at 2 and grows by 3 every step.
  2. 2. B — 8. Rule: multiply by the same number each time. 8 times 4 is 32. 2 times 4 is 8 — the same rule both times.
  3. 3. A — 10. Rule: multiply by the same number each time. 3 times 5 is 15. 2 times 5 is 10 — the same rule both times.
  4. 4. E — 100. Rule: multiply by the same number each time. 5 times 5 is 25. 20 times 5 is 100 — the same rule both times.
  5. 5. D — 93. Rule: use the pattern, not just the numbers. 6 is 3 more than 3, so the answer is 3 more than 90 — that's 93. You don't have to work it out from scratch.
  6. 6. A — 3. Rule: divide by the same number each time. 88 divided by 4 is 22. 12 divided by 4 is 3 — the same rule both times.
  7. 7. B — 64. Rule: use the pattern, not just the numbers. 34 is 3 less than 37, so the answer is 64 rather than 67.
  8. 8. E — 51. Rule: the gap grows each time. The gap between numbers starts at 5 and grows by 1 every step.
  9. 9. C — 58. Rule: use the pattern, not just the numbers. 4 is 2 less than 6, and taking away less leaves more, so the answer is 58.
  10. 10. E — 95. Rule: the gap grows each time. The gap between numbers starts at 2 and grows by 8 every step.
